Dental Emergencies at Preferred Urgent Care in Katy or Fulshear

Of course, emergencies can happen at any time. Dental emergencies can be tricky as you’ll need specific care from your dentist. If you should suffer from a dental emergency outside of your dentist’s regular office hours, such as on the weekend, come to Preferred Urgent Care in Katy and Fulshear, TX. We can offer relief for issues such as toothaches or swollen gums. We’ll also help make sure that your condition is stable and healthy until you are able to get to the dentist office. It should be noted that we cannot replace your dentist, but we can offer assistance and services until your dentist will be able to see you. In times of emergency, it is important to give attention to an injury as promptly as possible to ensure that it does not get worse.

If you should suffer from a dental emergency, such as from a sports injury or an impact to the mouth, contact your dentist office as soon as possible to make an appointment. Some dentist offices offer emergency hours or appointments, so you may be able to see them on the same day or the next day. You may also be able to get a referral to a different trusted specialist. If neither of these is an option, come to Preferred Urgent Care in Katy and Fulshear, TX to have your injury treated. In the meantime, you can take these steps to preserve the health of your teeth and gums.

  • Toothache: A toothache can have several different causes, so it is important to see your dentist to determine the source of the pain. Clean the mouth by rinsing with warm salt water to displace any food lodged between the teeth and gums. A cold compress can be applied if there is any facial swelling and acetaminophen can be helpful to deal with pain.
  • Cracked or Broken Tooth: Collect all the pieces of the tooth that you can. Apply a dental cement to help with pain and help to preserve the tooth.
  • Knocked-out Tooth: Retrieve the tooth and rinse it gently. Do not clean it and handle it only by the crown and not the root. Keep it in a container of milk or saliva until your dentist can attempt to put it back in its socket.
